The Young Black Contractors Association (YBCA) has invited a number of local movers and shakers to an emergency meeting on Aug. 29 to discuss “The State of Black Contractors in the State of California.”

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at the YBCA offices at 4828 Crenshaw Blvd. Abdur R. Hameed, chairman and CEO of the National Black Contractors, will be moderator.

Topics of discussion will include the transit corridor project, the Wilshire Grand Hotel project, the California High Speed Rail and the Forum project, among others. The YBCA has continually maintained that African American contractors have been excluded from participation in many of these large building projects.

Invited speakers include Assemblyman Isadore Hall, Carson Councilwoman Lula Davis-Holmes, Los Angeles Board of Public Works Commissioner Mike Davis, Compton Mayor Aja Brown, Los Angeles 9th District Councilman Curren D. Price, Urban League President Nolan V. Rollins, MTA Board Member Jackie Dupont-Walker and others.
