The Frederick K.C. Price III Schools is partnering with Stepping in the Right Direction to host "The Black College Fair," a free Historically Black College and University (HBCU) college fair on Saturday, Dec., 15, 2012, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The fair will feature more than 45 HBCUs from around the country, including Spelman College, Howard University, Morehouse College, Hampton University and Xavier University. The fair will be held in Crenshaw Christian Center's Youth Activity Center of Price Schools. The church is located at 7901 S. Vermont Ave. in Los Angeles.
Along with the 45-plus HBCUs represented, "The Black College Fair" will offer workshops on the SAT, personal statements, financial aid and scholarships. College applications with on-the-spot acceptances will be available, as will information on attending HBCU college tour trips. There will be prizes throughout the day. Attendees will also be able to meet current HBCU students and participate in a "HBCU Life 101" forum.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Price to invite the community out and provide a service for our children's futures," Price Superintendent Dr. Feager Pertilla said.
The mission of Stepping in the Right Direction HBCU Tours is to expose students to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and provide them with the educational information they will need to help them decide on which college or university they would like to attend in order to begin their collegiate experience. The organization has been in existence for more than 10 years and has organized more than 30 HBCU college fairs and tours all over the country.
Price is a private, Christian, preschool-12th grade school servicing students all throughout the city and neighboring communities. The school is accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and boasts a 100 percent graduation rate and 100 percent college acceptance rate for its students.
As a part of the program, Price's senior class will meet with six HBCU representatives in an intimate setting prior to the college fair to discuss the admissions process and opportunities available, and students school-wide will be in attendance on Saturday to participate and assist other attendees.
Other sponsors for The Black College Fair include Jack and Jill of America Inc., the Los Angeles Urban League and the National Council of Negro Women.
The Black College Fair is open to all students and their families in the Southern California area. Food and refreshments will be available to purchase. Call Price Schools at (323) 565-4199 for registration of large groups of 10 or more, or to receive more information.
