Congresswoman Karen Bass will host a Mortgage Relief Town Hall and Resource Fair at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Culver City Senior Center, 4095 Overland Ave., Culver City, to inform residents about the latest news on the Obama Administration’s housing and mortgage relief programs.

Homeowners will have the opportunity to receive a private consultation with bank representatives or a HUD-approved housing counselor to get guidance on working with mortgage servicers to avoid foreclosure, organizing financial matters and understanding available mortgage options.

In lieu of meeting with a counselor, homeowners may also attend a consumer rights workshop or meet with a representative from the banks in attendance.

In addition, participants will learn about policy updates at the federal and state levels directly from Brian Nelson, the special assistant to the California Attorney General. He will also update attendees on the Homeowners’ Bill of Rights and a new program, Keep Your Home California.

Bass will also provide a progress report on the status of her bipartisan legislation, the Homeownership Preservation Education (HOPE) Act, which seeks to give a mortgage interest rate reduction to first-time homebuyers.

For information, call (323) 965-1422.
