The second annual Tri-Carson, a sprint triathlon that reverses the normal sequence of events, is scheduled for Oct. 15 at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
The race consists of a three-mile run, a 12-mile bike ride, starting from the university campus and through the surrounding streets, as well as a 200-meter swim in the campus pool. The race, which begins at 7:30 a.m., has an expected completion time of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
This year, a 5K run, a one-mile campus walk and a 1K kids' dash are also being added to the event.
An awards ceremony for top overall finishers will immediately follow the race.
Tri-Carson is a joint project of the City of Carson, Cal State Dominguez, Train 4 Autism, and Kaiser Permanente. The inaugural Tri-Carson in 2010 drew huge participation not only locally, but also from other communities. Organizers are expecting even more participants this year, especially with the addition of three new events.
The cost of registration is $80 for the triathlon, $25 for the 5K and $15 for the walk or the kids' dash. All registered participants will receive a T-shirt and various giveaways. participants must be at least 18 years old to sign up for all events, except the kids' dash.
