LOS ANGELES, Calif.–A man was hospitalized this morning with multiple stab wounds and a Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team arrested the stabbing suspect after making a forced entry into a South Los Angeles house where he was barricaded, a police sergeant said.

The unidentified victim, in his 20s, was stabbed around 2 a.m. on the northeast corner of Cimarron Street and Manchester Avenue, said Sgt. Dave Craig a watch commander at the LAPD’s 77th Street Station.

He was stabbed in the arm, chest and upper back, according to a video news crew member at the scene.

The victim was transported to a hospital where his vital signs were stable, Craig said. His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect ran from the scene after the stabbing and barricaded himself inside a house at 85th Street and Gramercy Place, the sergeant said.

The suspect refused to come out of the house, so the SWAT team was called to the scene about 2:15 a.m., Craig said. The SWAT officers evacuated nearby houses and tried to coax the suspect into surrendering, Craig said.

After a three-and-one-half-hour standoff, the SWAT officers fired what Craig described as “a projectile” into the house, which made the suspect come out, and he was arrested, the sergeant said. Neither the suspect nor any of the officers were injured in the action, Craig said.

The suspect was set to be booked for “attempted murder, mayhem or both,” Craig said. His name was not immediately available.
