Suspect sought in fatal child hit-and-run

LOS ANGELES, Calif.–Police were looking today for the driver of a dark-colored or black sports utility vehicle with front-end damage that struck and killed a 6-year-old girl in South Los Angeles.

The hit-and-run happened at about 9:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of West 49th Place, west of Figueroa Street, Officer Karen Rayner of Los Angeles Police Department said.

Witnesses said that Kemberly Arrue was following a ball into the street when she was struck. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Rayner said. The vehicle also was described as having dark windows, police said.
