The 2011 BET awards held Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium was full of fashion, excitement, surprises and most of all entertainment.

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart took it to a whole different level with his charisma and comical personality, and with more than 14 performances, BET provided their guests with more than a few surprises during the show.

Performers included Trey Songz, performing “Love Faces and Unusual;” Mary J. Blige collaborated with DJ Khaled, Jadakiss and Anita Baker to capture the audience by performing a mixture of songs including “Real Love,” “Joy,” and “All Night Long.” Patti LaBelle, lifetime achievement award recipient, rocked the house when she hit the stage performing two of her great hits “Lady Marmalade” and “Love, Need and Want You.”

Alicia Keys brought Rick Ross and Bruno Mars on stage during the performance of her latest song “Typewriter.” Chris Brown performed “Look at Me Now” featuring Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne, along with the hit singles “She Ain’t You,” and “Paper Scissors Rock.”

Special appearances featured Justin Bieber, Gladys Knight, Queen Latifah and the cast of The Five Heartbeats, who reunited to perform one of their famous hits, “Nights Like This.”

And that was just the music. In the awards department, Brown took home the award for Best Collaboration, Best Male Artist, Video of the Year, and The Coca Cola Viewers Choice award. Best Female Artist was awarded to Rihanna, and Best Female Hip Hop Star was awarded to Nicki Minaj. Best New Artist went to Wiz Khalifa; Best Male Hip-Hop star was Kanye West, while Diddy-Dirty Money won for Best Group. Best Actor and Actress went to Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson.

To close the night out, celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Doug E. Fresh, Queen Latifah, Scott Mayo, Warren G, Ledisi, and Cali Swag District paid tribute celebrating the lives of M-Bone from Cali Swag District, Nate Dogg, Teena Marie, Clarence Clemons, and Gil Scott-Heron.
