GARDEN GROVE, Calif.--A woman was in custody today for allegedly poisoning her estranged husband and cutting off his penis at his Garden Grove home.

The crime occurred about 9 p.m. Monday in the 14000 block of Flower Street, said Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale.

Catherine Kieu Becker, 48, was booked for aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning, and spousal abuse. She was being held at the Orange County Jail.

The 51-year-old man, whose name was not released, underwent emergency surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange and was listed in serious condition, Nightengale said.

Police went to the residence after a woman--later identified as the suspect--called 911 and reported a medical emergency, Nightengale said.

"Officers arrived and located a male victim tied to the bed and bleeding from his groin area," Nightengale said.

"The female, identified as his wife, had used an unknown type poison and/or drug in the male's food to make him sleepy," Nightengale said. "She tied him to the bed and as he woke the female cut off his penis with a knife.

The female tossed the penis in the garbage disposal and turned the disposal to the 'on' position."

Officers untied the man, and he was provided medical treatment until he was transported to the medical center, Nightengale said. The rope and knife were seized as evidence, Nightengale said.

"The initial investigation determined that the two are married and going through a divorce," Nightengale said. "The suspect made dinner for the victim and the male told detectives that he believed something was wrong with his food. The victim went to lie down, and he woke up tied to the bed with his wife tugging his clothes off.

"The suspect grabbed the victim's penis and cut it off," Nightengale said. "The suspect called 911 and told responding officers that he 'deserved it.'"
