Academic Decathlon Super Quiz results

LOS ANGELES, Calif.–Academic Decathlons wrapped up for both the Los Angeles county and city school districts with the Super Quiz event, which focused on geology.

Alhambra High School and Burbank High School tied for first place in the Super Quiz portion of the Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon at USC.

Both teams had 49 points out of a possible 60, according to preliminary results released by LACAD officials.

Arcadia High, El Rancho High of Pico Rivera and West High of Torrance finished in a three-way tie for second with 48 points, while Keppel High of Alhambra and Torrance High were knotted at third with 47 points.

The Los Angeles Unified School District Super Quiz also ended in a tie, between Granada Hills Charter High School and Marshall High School, in the event held at the Roybal Learning Center in downtown Los Angeles, according to district officials.

Both high schools earned an unofficial score of 57 points.

San Fernando High School finished second with 49 points.

The Super Quiz results are preliminary and unofficial, pending the announcement of overall final team standings and individual scores.

The county awards banquet will be held Feb. 10 in Montebello, while the LAUSD banquet will be Feb. 11 at Hollywood High School.

The winners will go on to compete in the 2011 California Academic Decathlon, scheduled for next month in Sacramento.
