LOS ANGELES – Lady Gaga picked up eight Moonmen trophies last night at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, including video of the year for “Bad Romance.”

The only other multiple winner was  Eminem, who won two awards for “Not Afraid.”

Gaga, known for her outrageous costumes, did not disappoint, accepting the show’s biggest prize for best video wearing a dress, hat and purse that appeared to be made out of cuts of meat.

She had been nominated for a record 13 categories, and won in eight, including best female, pop and dance music videos.

Eminem won for best male and hip-hop video for “Not Afraid.”

Justin Bieber won the Moonman for best new artist.

In one of the night’s more dramatic moments, Taylor Swift debuted a song that recounted her on-stage encounter with West during last year’s ceremony in New York, when he stormed the stage and took the microphone away from her as she tried to make an acceptance speech.

Swift’s ballad was described as a peace offering to West, who was widely criticized for his actions, which he has repeatedly apologized for.

“Thirty-two and still growing up … Lost your balance on the tightrope, it’s never too late to get back,” she sang.
