New library in Rancho Dominguez

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved a $7.5 million, 7,000 square-foot library to be built in East Rancho Dominguez. The money for the new library was drawn from a specific fund that pays for city improvements such as parks, libraries, and museums.
Members of the East Rancho Dominguez Block-Watch Organization, church members, the Sheriff’s Department and many businesses showed up at the board meeting to show their support of the project that is expected to also serve as a center for many community events. Approximately 100,000 residents currently live in the area and there is no library to accommodate their volume. The new facility will be 40%  larger than the East Rancho Dominguez Library that is in use now, which is only 4,000 square feet and grossly undersized for the amount of people who use it.
Sheriff Department Commander Todd Rogers stated, “The library builds on the department’s philosophy of prevention over suppression, it’s a pathway from crime.”
The project is in the design stages now and will begin construction in Winter 2011 and is expected to be complete in Spring 2012.
Carde Ten Architects will be responsible for the architectural/engineering design, consultant and construction administration services for the project.  The construction of the East Rancho Dominguez Library is expected to provide the community with at least 200 new jobs. The library is expected to provide an invaluable service to the members of the community by giving the community  access to computers, group study spaces, meeting rooms and it will be much more accessible to the physically disabled.
