Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Urban League (LAUL) board recently elected veteran banker and respected community leader Carl A. Ballton, senior vice president at Union Bank, N.A., to chairman of the board. Ballton, who also serves as president and chief operating officer of the Union Bank Foundation, will work closely with LAUL President Blair H. Taylor to carry out LAUL's mission of enabling African Americans and other minorities to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.
"We are thrilled to have Carl Ballton chair our Los Angeles Urban League Board as part of his ongoing commitment to the community," said Blair. "Carl will lead an equally committed board of directors, community and group of business leaders who are passionate about the League's ongoing work, which benefits Los Angeles and California at large." During his two-year appointment, Ballton will work to ensure the long-term financial stability of the Urban League and maintain, enhance and expand upon current programs such as the Neighborhoods@Work program, a long-term strategic plan focusing on advocacy, leadership and neighborhood change.
"It's an honor to serve as chairman of the board of the Los Angeles Urban League," says Ballton. "This is an exciting time for the Urban League, and I'm pleased to be a part of such positive change for our communities in the coming years."
Ballton, who has been with Union Bank since 1979, brings more than 29 years of experience and community service to his new role as LAUL's board chairman. He has supported numerous civic and community organizations throughout California, including: California Community Reinvestment Corporation; Crystal Stairs, Inc. (board chair); Goodwill Industries of Southern California; Alumni Board of Governors of Occidental College; Abode Communities; Corporate Advisory Boards of the United Negro College Fund and the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce; and is chairman of the Deacon Board and Brotherhood Organization for West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
