Police in the Newton area are asking for the public’s help apprehending two men accused of snatching purses from 35 women in the last six weeks, and at the same time the LAPD is warning females to be particularly aware of where they carry their purses and where they carry their money. They are also being advised to be confident in their demeanor.
The Newton area is roughly bounded by Washington Boulevard on the north, the 110 Freeway on the west, the L.A. River and Central Avenue to the east and Florence on the south.
The suspects–both described as male Hispanics, one 20 to 25-years-old, 160 pounds, 5 feet 8 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes; and the other said to be 40-years old–have been seen driving a late-model Japanese import car. If the victim resists, the men will show a hand gun or physically force the purse from a victim’s hand.
