LA Youth at Work continues its job placement activities with upcoming hiring events including one at Los Angeles Southwest College July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and another at Los Angeles City College Aug. 7 from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
The events focus on helping young people ages 16 to 24 find jobs, and a number of employers will actually have jobs to offer immediately.
Los Angeles Southwest College is located at 1600 W. Imperial Hwy., Los Angeles, and the job fair will be held in the quad area in front of The Little Theater. Enter from Imperial at Denker Avenue. For additional details, call (323) 241-5406.

Youth who want to get a jump on competitors can attend one of the LA Youth at Work free job skills workshops to obtain a Work Readiness Certificate.
Showing this certificate demonstrates that you have passed a rigorous training program, and that you are ready for entry-level employment. The next workshops will be held tonight from 4-7 p.m. at Greenberg Traurig LLP, 2450 Colorado Ave., Suite 400 East Tower, Santa Monica, call (310) 586-7700 and contact Kim Bui; July 31 from 1-4 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 2-5 p.m. at the Boyle Heights Technology Center, 1600 E. Interested individuals must register for the free intensive one-on-one interview process by going to the Hire LA Youth Web site at www.layouthatwork.org/WRC.html. Additionally, once there, the young person must complete and download an application that contains the most commonly asked questions; print out the completed form and bring it with them to the workshop. There is also a form that enables those who do not have a resume to create one. They can do so then bring it to the interview as well.
Those who do not have access to a computer can pick up an application at one of the WorkSource centers located around the city. Call (888) 226-6300 for the nearest location.
After the interview process, youngsters will receive an evaluation of their performance and those who pass will receive Hire LA Youth job leads. Those who fail are provided with feedback and are encouraged to try again.
In addition to the two LA Youth At Work events, Jobing.com will also hold a free career fair Aug. 5 from 2-6 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center West Hall B. Interview attire should be worn and potential applicants should bring a resume.
Some employers will interview on-site and others will accept resumes. The career fair is open to people of all ages and will feature a number of workshops: Effective Communication Skills, Negotiating Your Next Promotion and Raise, and Market Yourself with Your Resume.
The convention center is located at 1201 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles.
