First African elects Pastor

Rev. Brown was very adamant about this congregation progressing and worked tirelessly to see that it did. He led the congregation from meetings in the homes, to a small theatre in Leimert Park, and onto its present edifice where he toiled along with members of the congregation to remodel and enhance the building.
Dr. Stone is a native of Dallas, Texas. He has been a member of Price Chapel AME Church for 45 years. Ordained a deacon in 1991, Dr. Stone was ordained an itinerate elder in 1993.
He received his bachelors degree in pre-law-business management at Whittier College. The master’s of ministry degree was earned at La Salle University, and his PhD. Degree in theocentric psychology at La Salle University/PULC.
Dr. Stone is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). He is active in various gang intervention, youth-at-risk and prison ministries. He also serves on numerous community action and service boards.
He and his wife are the parents of six children and six grandchildren.
Speaking on “Are You Big Enough to Forgive?” on Feb. 10, Dr. Stone told the congregation, “We all learn good lessons from bad experiences. If we forgive someone, we’ll remind them of it every chance we get!”
“There are some people who are unrepented, they are in denial, they will never say they are wrong. You need to forgive people and forget it. If someone comes to you to apologize, you are duty bound to forgive them!” declared Dr. Stone.
Douglas Gibbs provided the music for the day.
“We’ve Come This Far By Faith” is the theme for Black History Month. The celebration will end with a pot luck dinner on Sunday, Feb. 24, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The public is invited to attend.
