Changes proposed on local lines

 Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority is holding a series of meetings offering details on changes in bus routes. Public hearings for local changes will be held Feb. 9, 11 and 12.

The Feb. 9 meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Carson Community Center, 801 Carson St. Carson.

It will detail proposed changes for bus lines that operate between Long Beach on the south, Hollywood to the north, Marina del Rey to the west and Whittier on the east.

Postmaster asks to reduce delivery

 Washington, DC—United States Postmaster General John E. Potter has asked a Congressional oversight committee to lift the rule requiring the agency to deliver mail six days a week.

If the move is approved, it could save the post office between $1.9 and $3.5 billion annually, and help the agency battle a budget deficit that is expected to jump by at least $6 billion this year.

Sexually assaulted women in taxi

 Los Angeles, CA – Women on skid row are breathing easier these days after a taxi driver who allegedly committed a string of sexual assaults on five women was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 21 by police.

Set popular homeless man on fire

 Los Angeles, CA – Benjamin Mathew Martin, 30, was charged Monday with one count of murder with special circumstance allegations of murder by torture and murder by means of lying in wait in connection with the killing of John Robert McGraham, according to Los Angels County Head Deputy District Attorney William Hodgman.

Martin was arrested Thursday on suspicion of setting fire to McGraham, a homeless man, last year in the Westlake district.

McGraham subsequently died from his injuries.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
