Joe Ella Adkins disappeared Sunday

The family of Joe Ella Adkins is seeking the public’s help to locate their relative, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and high blood pressure.

Adkins, 73, was last seen on Sunday, July 6 around 7:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Wilton Place in Los Angeles.

Gerald Wiggins mourned

Jazz pianist and organist, Gerald Wiggins, was born on May 12, 1922 in New York. He began classical piano lessons at the age of four and toured with Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Lou Rawls, Eartha Kitt and more. In the 1940s he made Los Angeles his permanent home. He died Sunday morning at Encino-Tarzana Medical Center. Services are pending.

Parks wins approval for motion aimed at investigating MLK’s problem employees

Tuesday, Councilmember Bernard C. Parks (CD8) successfully gained support for a motion calling on the County Board of Supervisors to investigate the County’s failure to remove problem employees.

Americans getting kidnapped in Mexico

Americans visiting border states are becoming the targets of violent Mexican kidnapping operations, according to federal agents.

FBI agents said that the kidnapping cells, described as Mexican cartels, are well-financed, organized and violent. One group does the scouting for victims, another carries out the abduction, a third keeps the victim, and a fourth handles the ransom.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
