iWatch program

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The Los Angeles Police Department today urged Southlanders to remain vigilant about passing on possible terrorist-related information to authorities.

The plea was made in the wake of last week's discovery of packages containing explosive materials that were shipped from Yemen and addressed to religious sites in Chicago.

Security was beefed up at airports across the country, and security officials at Los Angeles International Airport convened an emergency meeting on Friday morning.

Saw 3-D

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—"Saw 3-D'' scared up the most bucks at the weekend box office.

The latest installment in the "Saw'' fright flick franchise sold an estimated $24.2 million during its debut weekend, according to ticket tracker Hollywood.com.

Another scary movie sequel, "Paranormal Activity 2,'' came in second, with an estimated $18.5 million in sales.

The action comedy "Red'' came in third, with a projected take of $10.8 million.

It's not just about sports

LOS ANGELES, Clalif.—Laker executive Jeanie Buss said her book "Laker Girl,'' which will be released today, is not just about sports, but about relationships, which for her have the potential for tremendous personal and professional complications.

"I'm the boss' daughter and I'm dating his star employee,'' said Buss, referring to her father, Laker owner Jerry Buss, and the team's coach, Phil Jackson.

America's Best Dance Crew

VAN NUYS, Calif.—Choreographer Shane Sparks, who was a judge on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew,'' was ordered today to stand trial on eight sex-related counts involving an underage girl in the 1990s.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Jessica Silvers found sufficient evidence to require Sparks—whose full name is Melvin Shane Sparks—to proceed to trial on six counts of lewd act on a child and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
