Fostering Imagination goes Hollywood
Play gives youth creative outlet, raises money
Fostering Imagination: Building Better Futures for Foster Youth (FI) is an organization that creates innovative programs to empower youth and help them successfully transition into independent lifestyles, after they have been emancipated from the foster care system.
FI offers free mentoring, lifestyle skills training and a theater program to provide the youth with an activity that gives them a constructive creative outlet.
On Sunday, the students of FI will star in “Youth Take the Stage: The Magic of Hollywood” at the Ruskin Theatre.
Youth performing in “The Magic of Hollywood” are part of Fostering Imagination’s 12-week core theater program, “Fostering Creativity,” where they are introduced to theater by learning different acting techniques and exercises. The performers also come from FI’s Masters of Creativity, an advanced program where foster youth become junior mentors in training.
The students will put on two shows, one at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m., and the suggested donation of $10 per person will go towards continuing the free mentoring and enrichment programs Fostering Imagination provides.
