Opponents and proponents of Proposition 92 agree on one thing: The California community colleges have been consistently shortchanged when funding has been doled out over the last 20 years.

Cal Grant workshops help students

 March 2 is the deadline for students who plan on attending a two-year or four-year school in California to apply for one of six Cal Grants.

High school seniors, recent high school grads and those who have just completed a General Education Degree (GED) can apply for grants that pay tuition and fees up to $9,708.

Scholarship can fuel the future

 Los Angeles, CA - College isn’t cheap, but it’s important for youth to get a college degree. According to Collegeboard.com, the average price for a private education at a four-year institution is $25,143 per year, which was 5.9% higher in 2008 than the previous year.

L.A. teachers refuse to give assessment exams

 Los Angeles, CA - Teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District spend about one month out of the school year administering tests to their students at a cost of $150 million annually for non-State and Federally mandated tests, according to United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA), and at a press conference held Tuesday at Emerson Middle School, the educators have vowed beginning immediately to boycott what they called “unnecessary” periodic assessments.
