Financial literacy of high school students has fallen to its lowest level ever

Kids these days. They're constantly bombarded with information from all directions on every topic imaginable - except how to manage money.
In fact, the financial literacy of high school students has fallen to its lowest level ever, according to a survey of high school seniors and college students released last year by the Jump$tart Coalition.

Festival showcases the African Diaspora

Lena McLin, niece of famed musician Thomas Dorsey, who was known as the “father of Gospel,” is one of two noted women to conduct the annual “Living Legends Festival” Saturday, April 17, at Peninsula Community Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. The festival was created in 2003 by Hansonia Caldwell, professor emeritus of music, and director of African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians program at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Health care bill includes education funding

When President Barack Obama signed the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010, not only did he approve a historic change in the way health care will be offered in America, but he also made a commitment that will mean Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and predominantly Black Educational Institutions (PBIs) will get financial resources badly needed to continue their respective missions.

Verbum Dei High School

The FIRST Robotics competition combines sports with science and technology by using team-building skills to teach kids how to create program robots to do specific tasks and race against other teams inventions. This year’s state regional match-ups were held March 25-27 at the Long Beach Arena, and Raytheon engineers are among the volunteers who teamed with students from various schools around the region like Verbum Dei High School (pictured here) to help them create and assemble their robot.
