BLVD Farmers Market starts summer hours

Lancaster’s Human Relations Tapestry Commission, in collaboration with the BLVD Association, celebrated Cinco de Mayo with special festivities at the BLVD Farmers’ Market Thursday. At that time, the Farmers’ Market also switched to its summer schedule, 4-9 p.m.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is observed as a celebration of Latino heritage and pride. The Farmers’ Market featured live entertainment on the Bex Stage, including Latin music.

Participants passionate about immigration reform

Energized by the possibility of immigration reform, thousands of demonstrators marched through downtown Los Angeles Wednesday taking part in May Day rallies aimed at pressing Congress to enact legislation ending deportations.

A massive rally organized by about 20 community groups began around midday at Olympic Boulevard and Broadway, then ended up three hours later at La Placita Olvera on North Main Street. A second march took place along largely the same route a few hours later.

No suspects yet named in continuing investigation

Leila Fowler’s oldest brother says he isn’t ready to say goodbye.

“I’m not saying goodbye to Leila. I’m saying ‘See you later.’ There are no goodbyes,” Justin Fowler said Tuesday night.

Justin was part of a crowd of hundreds who gathered to remember Leila at an emotional candlelight vigil for the slain Northern California girl.

The 8-year-old girl, known for her bubbly personality, was stabbed to death at her home over the weekend.

Topping-off ceremony brings world-renowned cancer care closer to local residents

A milestone in the construction of a community cancer clinic brought a giant leap in treatment options to residents of the Antelope Valley who are battling cancer. City of Hope, Antelope Valley Hospital, and G. L. Bruno Associates Inc. recently celebrated the completion of the internal structure of City of Hope | Antelope Valley with a “topping off” ceremony.
