Federal construction bond program

The Palmdale School District received an allocation of $25 million from federal stimulus funds through the Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) program. The funds were received on Jan. 14. Of the 133 districts that applied, only 61 received an allocation. In addition, less than 20 of the 133 applicants received the maximum allocation of $25 million.

Palmdale Playhouse’s unique production

PALMDALE, Calif.—The premiere of “The African Company presents ‘Richard III’” is getting closer, and the cast is set, costumed and working out the kinks. The production started out with a bit of a challenge with casting the right person for the right part, but now it seems as if everything is falling into place.

Wisconsin’s Priebus is new chair

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele gave up his re-election bid last week, after it became apparent that he did not have enough votes to win another stint at the forefront of the GOP.

Wisconsin GOP Chairman Reince Priebus won with 97 votes over second-place finisher Saul Anuzis.

How does an inner-city principal get her elementary students and their families to commit to attendance and good behavior?

An incentive of $300 is a good start, as Principal Natalie Means of Jefferson Elementary, in St. Louis, discovered.

In the fall, Jefferson Elementary offered 25 newly enrolled students $300, if they achieved 95 percent attendance, were not suspended, and their guardians attended three out of four Parent Teacher Organization meetings by the end of the semester.
