Three downtown streets involved

LANCASTER, Calif.—The proposed Off the Blvd. Mardi Gras Block Party gained the support of the BLVD Association during a board meeting last month. With that support, block-party organizer Diane Reeves, owner at Perk Place Coffee House, can now move forward with creating the event.

Could be as high as 35%

Later this month, Antelope Valley College administrators may get news they would just as soon avoid—about pay cuts.

Some estimate the cuts could be as much as 35 percent starting July 1 as a result of California’s budget crisis.

Faced with the specter of up to $11 million in budget cuts in the 2011-12 fiscal year that begins in July, AVC officials will ask college trustees at a special meeting on Thursday to issue March 15 letters to educational administrators.
