Shooting in Lancaster leaves one wounded, dead
LANCASTER, Calif.—A man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting in Lancaster, sheriff’s officials announced today.
The shooting occurred at 9:06 p.m. Thursday in the 44000 block of Beech Avenue, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Guillermina Saldana.
“The victim and the suspect were arguing with each other when the suspect produced a handgun and fatally shot the victim multiple times in the upper torso,” Saldana said in a statement.
The victim, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at a hospital, sheriff’s officials said.
A woman standing near the scene was also shot in the lower torso, Saldana said. The woman, who was not related to the victim, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect remains outstanding.

LANCASTER, Calif.—Three new felony counts were filed today against a Palmdale man accused of leading sheriff's deputies on a high-speed pursuit in Lancaster last month that ended in a crash that killed a 2-year-old girl and seriously injured her mother.
Marvin Travon Hicks—already charged with murder and evading an officer causing injury—was charged today with one count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury and evading an officer causing death.
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The Board of Supervisors today renewed a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever fatally shot an Army veteran in Lancaster.
Supervisor Michael Antonovich recommended that the reward—set to expire Aug. 14—be extended for at least another 90 days.

The crash was reported about 6 a.m. Monday at SR-138 and 110th Street West, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.
Christopher Paul Carroll, 29, of Palmdale, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

Traffic was routed around the area while an investigation was conducted.
COMPTON, Calif.—Bail was set at $3 million today for a 15-year-old boy charged as an adult in a June 4 shooting that killed a 14-month-old boy and wounded his father in Watts.
Donald Ray Dokins made his initial court appearance this afternoon but did not enter a plea. His arraignment was postponed to July 16 in Compton Superior Court.
Dokins faces one count of murder stemming from Angel Cortez’s slaying and one count of attempted murder for allegedly shooting the boy’s father, Mauro, in the shoulder.
